Five Private Investors Spending Big on Large Retail Assets

The retail resurgence has been swift and acquisitive investors are making their move in 2025. Retail unlisted wholesale funds were the best-performing sector in the MSCI Australian Wholesale Index, posting a solid 7.8 per cent total return. Asset values have shown growth in almost all subsectors in the first half of 2025, with the retail sector leading the charge. The investment case for large lifestyle retail centres is improving, supported by consumer spending, wage growth outpacing the consumer price index (CPI) and favourable supply dynamics. We take a look at five private investors making moves in 2025 as transactions continue apace. Fawkner Property With retail holdings valued at $1.7 billion across 18 properties, Fawkner Property has secured $797 million in acquisitions during the past 24 months. The majority of the assets are along the east coast, plus two in Perth and one in Karratha in WA.
